Why does the Women’s Lunch Place need a renovation?
At the heart of WLP’s mission is the dignity of our guests. This is why we offer restaurant-style meals, private advocacy, quality medical care, and other services that recognize each woman’s individual needs.
When our physical space is not dignified, we can no longer fulfill our mission. WLP has identified many opportunities to honor the dignity of our guests while improving their safety. For a summary of these changes, see our list of needs.
Have you considered moving into a building of your own?
Currently, WLP rents space in the basement of The Church of the Covenant. Given our safe location in the heart of Back Bay, not to mention our friendly neighbors, we have determined it best to stay where we are.
How much does it cost to renovate the WLP?
Our capital campaign goal―$2.5 million―reflects the cost of renovating our shelter.
As a Back Bay neighbor, I have questions about whether the construction affects me. Whom should I contact?
All neighbors should contact Sue Morong, our Chief Operating Officer, at either 617-267-1722 x21 or sue@womenslunchplace.org.
Will your mailing address stay the same during the renovation?
Please see our Contact Page (hyperlink “Contact Page” with new tab) for updated information.
What will happen to your guests during the renovations?
WLP’s renovations will take approximately four months to complete, and during that time, our guests can access facilities at Old South Church, located in Copley Square. We will provide breakfast and lunch, along with most programs, in this space. Unfortunately, we will only be open from Monday to Friday (not Saturday) during this temporary period, which will last until the end of August.
Are there volunteer opportunities while you are at your temporary home?
We always rely on our volunteers, both in executing our programs and in supporting our staff. At our temporary home, we will need just as much help as ever to ensure that guests feel welcome. Just like before, we will have opportunities to help prepare and serve our meals, provide programming, assist administrative personnel, and interact with guests. To find out more, please contact volunteers@womenslunchplace.org.
